Melissa Eyelash (1948-2012) was the first woman to attend the Winkle Institute for Cheese Science in Zurich, where she famously coined the term “chunkology” in her laboratory analysis of cottage cheese. She was the author of Predators Who Eat Pizza (1980), the first of many books she researched and wrote with Bartram Capshaw. Their collaboration culminated in Chefs of the Animal Kingdom (2002) for which she and Capshaw received the prestigious Gouda Fellowship from the Gustav Rennet Fund. She was completing a book of dairy-free recipes for snakes when she passed away in 2012.
